The Opportunity

We are expanding our Research group to include an Investment Analyst dedicated to our Fixed Income team.  The Investment Analyst will work closely with our Director of Fixed Income in all aspects of managing the firm’s bond portfolios.  In this role, the investment analyst will work with our internal systems to enhance our fixed income investment platform, including sizing and placing trades and monitoring portfolios to ensure adherence to targets and guidelines.  Additional responsibilities will involve maintaining our fixed income trading groups, rebalancing portfolios due to changes in investment strategy, maintaining all compliance related documents and identifying accounts that are outside of their investment guidelines.  In addition, the analyst will also collect credit research on major positions held and will maintain an online library of such research.  Finally, the analyst will also assist with client needs and will attend meetings when necessary. We are looking for a well-rounded individual who is driven to succeed, has a passion for learning, is naturally curious, and takes initiative.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working with internal systems (INDATA, Perform, Bloomberg and Excel) to enhance Bailard’s fixed income investment platform
  • Process trades in Bailard’s portfolio management system, INDATA, and upload and maintain portfolios in Perform, Bailard’s fixed income management system
  • Invest new funds according to investment strategy and guidelines
  • Rebalance portfolios when necessary
  • Monitor portfolios to make sure that they are within investment guidelines/targets
  • Collect credit research on all major positions held
  • Assist with client needs including creating and distributing client reports and attending meetings when necessary
  • Trouble shoot any systems issues

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with an emphasis in math, economics, and/or  finance preferred
  • 2-3 years minimum of relevant work experience in an  investment management role
  • Extensive familiarity with Excel and ability to program in SQL and R
  • Strong interest in and/or experience in financial markets, particularly in Fixed Income
  • Exposure to financial statement analysis, with some background in corporate credit analysis
  • Attention to detail to ensure maximum accuracy and minimal error rate
  • Interest in pursuing, or progress towards an industry designation including  CFA or similar
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills 
  • Must be excited and able to work in an entrepreneurial environment with autonomy and flexibility
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently and also with a team
